SANTA CRUZ IV
Strict guidelines for landscaping strive to maintain the existing natural beauty and character of this heavily-wooded community. Patios, walls, and other hardscape elements are required to have a low profile, and fences are split-rail to allow for the unrestricted movement of wildlife. Natural stone and decomposed granite were used for patios and walkways. The plant palette is largely native, consisting of oak, redwood, manzanitas, and ceanothus.
The generic courtyard, accessible from several interior rooms, was redesigned in a style more appropriate for the architecture. A local ironworker designed and built the unique gate leading to this space.
