ABOUT KATHLEEN

Garden design offers the unique challenge of designing in space and time. Although there are permanent elements in a garden, like walls, decks, patios, arbors, and water features, the organic elements and the whims of nature ensure that it will never be static. Light, weather, seasonal changes, the growth and life spans of plants, the numerous creatures that pass through or take up residence, all work together to make the garden a constantly-evolving work in progress.

Designing a good garden is a collaboration. Every project I take on presents an opportunity to work closely with my clients and the artisans who will build it, to create a unique and personal space that brings out the inherent style of the people who live there.

As a certified member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), I have been designing outdoor spaces in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties and the Bay Area since 1995.
