LA SELVA BEACH
This tiny, 700 sq. ft. house, originally built as a studio in the early 1960s, was completely remodeled by the homeowner in 2015-16. Although the bones of the original garden were still in place, over the years tenants added many new plants. There was a lot of variety randomly placed without much thought for design. We ‘rearranged’ many of the existing plants, and new plants were added — Agaves and other succulents, Cordylines, Anigozanthos, Coleonema, and Leucospermum, to name a few. The intent was to give the garden structure while maintaining as many of the existing plants as made sense. We also reshaped the plant beds, added gravel walkways, and carved out an additional gravel patio at the front of the property. A local craftsman created the entrance gate based on a rough design that I and the homeowner provided. These photo were taken in early spring and summer.
