APTOS I
This garden was smothered in pink: Large camellias, rhododendrons, a flamboyant cherry, and a tea tree — all in varying shades of pink, all flowering at the same time! The yard was also muddy and unusable in winter and spring.
The homeowner wanted a Mediterranean garden with a broader color palette, as well as a space that could be enjoyed throughout the year. Originally from New Mexico, she also wanted elements reminiscent of her former home.
A hay bale fireplace anchors the upper level of the new stone patio. Behind it is a rustic arbor festooned with climbing white roses. In the side yard, old adobe bricks were used to construct vegetable and cut flower beds.
